Narrators of History

Empowerment through better narrative awareness

Narrators of History is a website and an interactive film that can be used as a tool to help neighbouring countries get to know their shared history and the narrative of the other. The users get to explore an interactive historical timeline where the historical events can be explored through both nations’ points of views.

After exploring the events the users can add their own narratives and comments, creating a participatory experience where the diversity of historical interpretations becomes evident. The users are exposed not only to the dynamics at work behind historical narratives, but also to their own emotional and cognitive processes regarding historical representations.

In addition, listening to the other side’s version has been scientifically proven to increase dialogue skills and help see the opponent in a more positive light.

The project is being developed by a Finnish/Israeli/Palestinian/Dutch team of interaction designers, historians, filmmakers and conflict transformation experts. The project is supported by AVEK and Finnish Film Foundation and it was presented at IDFA Forum (2016) and DOC Tampere clinic (2020).

The project is going for a new fundraising round. Please contact hanna@peaceinvaders.fi for more information.

Peace Bank

Creating funding models that fuel peacetech innovation

Peace Bank is a new initiative to create discussion on the state of affairs in the funding structures supporting peace-building efforts. Traditionally peace organisations are funded by government grants and membership fees, but peacetech development requires much bigger budgets than these structures are able to cover.

We believe that new funding models are needed to make peacetech a financially viable industry. Proper funding would also attract the technological talent needed to create peacetech innovations that will have a powerful impact. Peace Bank is an initiative to explore different options to make this happen, including the possibility to invite the arms industry to participate in peacetech funding as an act of corporate responsibility.

Peace Bank is looking for experts from the fields of finance, conflict transformation and armstech to join us in exploring these new models. Please be in touch with us if you would like to be part of transforming the way peace-building is funded.
